'A minutes silence,' should be for who?
It’s always a terribly sad time when somebody passes away, be it suddenly or after a long illness.
If they have something to do with football there is often a minutes silence or more recently a minutes applause.
It is also used to mark an anniversary either of a tragedy or of a person passing away. In most cases it is done with the utmost respect, as it should.
Last week rumours spread around the web that there would be a minutes silence or applause for Baroness Thatcher!
The question has to be; why?
Of course it hasn't happened and it shouldn't!
Politics and sport shouldn't mix; it will only end in arguments!
Just as if someone famous in tennis or rugby or golf passes away; football doesn't hold a minute for them.
The late great Bobby Moore passed away just over twenty years ago and West Ham remembered him well recently. His minute was respectful; football fans paying respect to not only a club Captain but a World Cup wining Captain.
This weekend saw clubs remembering Hillsborough; something that won't be forgotten.
Football looks after its own and the minutes silence or applause should be for anything to do with the beautiful game.
If a minutes silence had been done for the former Prime Minister it would have been football that got a kick in the balls.
