Is Paul Lambert to blame for the mess at Aston Villa?
A concerned looking Lambert
I bet Paul Lambert wished he had a crystal ball and could see what he was letting himself in for when he took over at Villa Park; I seriously don't think he knew what a huge job he was undertaking.
Many of the Villa faithful are asking for the former Norwich boss to be shown the door but are the problems at the Birmingham club all Lambert's fault?
Look at the squad he took over; hardly a world beating team.
I think it would be fair to go as far back as Martin O'Neil to see problems were starting; yes I'd go that far back!
The reason I go back to the former Celtic boss is every Manager knows that every club needs good foundations and that starts with the youth team set up. With that in mind where are they all now?
Gerard Houllier can hardly be blamed as he was only in charge a short time.
Alex McLeish then took over against a lot of Villians wishes. As an experienced man in football he must have seen the problems that the squad wasn't strong enough and so needed to buy. I don't remember any major buys in his time at the club.
What troubles me is Randy Lerner, the Aston Villa owner, has a personnal wealth of one billion pounds and yet to my knowledge isn't spending much on the Midland giants.
Paul Lambert has proved throughtout his Managerment career that he can build good football sides but he needs backing and without that he's getting a kick in the balls.
