Is the Player of the Year award between Gareth Bale and RVP?

Robin Van Persie won the Player of the Year award last year and rightly so for the goals that he scored. Let's be fair and say there wasn't really a player around last season that could challenge him; he was in a class of his own. I think the reason he left Arsenal and with respect to them, he wanted silverware!

Sir Alex Ferguson missed out on the Premier League title to near neighbours Manchester City and a reason he gave was he lacked a natural goalscorer.

At twenty nine years of age RVP is the perfect footballer and an example to any young player on how to play the game. Some players take time to settle but the Dutchman didn't have time for that, he just carried on scoring like he did for the North London club last season.

He is in the frame to retain his award but he has a worthy challenger this season.

In 2007 Tottenham paid Southampton seven million pounds for a player that had scored five goals in forty appearances, not bad business considering the player was brought in as a left back.

It was obvious from the start that his talent was wasted at the back and slowly but surely he moved from left midfield into a more attacking player. The one thing that players don't want to see is Gareth Bale running at them at full speed because it's impossible to get the ball off him! It's as if the ball belongs at his feet and is tied by an invisible band.

The thing about the man from Cardiff is he doesn't score tap-ins, his goals are worth the admission fee on their own!

At twenty three we have yet to see the best of Gareth Bale, he just get's better and better as the seasons go by.

So the question is; Who will win the battle of the left footed players for the Player of the Year award?
