Liverpool on the up and up!

Some fans never gave him a chance!

When Liverpool appointed Brendan Rodgers as Manager a lot of fans basically laughed! They looked at the long term and the former Swansea boss said it wouldn't happen overnight. Any football fan can now see Rodger's tactics are starting to pay off. They sit comfortable in sixth place in the table just above Everton who have a game in hand. With a good run in they might even get a Champions League spot!

On Sunday they took on a Spurs team that were riding high after victories over North London rivals Arsenal and a three nil win at home to Inter Milan. Tottenham also had Gareth Bale but the reds have a man on form as well, Luis Suarez.

Many thought Rodgers had lost the plot when he let Andy Carroll join West Ham; I must admit I was at a loss as he was one of the only strikers at the club! Maybe he hoped to get another forward in but it just didn't happen? When he did buy a striker he brought in very well in Daniel Sturridge and a perfect partner for Suarez!

At the time I thought Dalglish hit the panic button buying the England striker, not because of his play but the price tag! Many forget that Torres departed for Chelsea and the other part of the deal was signing the Uruguayan, not only the cheapest player in the deal but proving to be  the best signing!

Sunday was the first time as Liverpool boss that his side had beaten a team in the top four and shows the work he is doing is starting to pay off. Going out to Oldham in the FA Cup might just prove a blessing as they are just two points away from a European place! A Cup run could have been a distraction.

They have a great youth policy at Liverpool and former QPR youth player Raheem Sterling shows what a bright future the club has. To me Rodgers is going back to the way the Liverpool of old used to play and that can only be a good thing. As long as they hold on to Suarez and Rodgers I can see Liverpool football club again challenging for the title, something that hasn't happened for a good few seasons.

The board have given him time and they will reap the rewards. Next season Liverpool will be a good bet for the Premiership! For those that laughed at Rodgers appointment it must be like getting a kick in the balls.
