Spurs doing nicely thank you very much

When Lord Alan Sugar left Tottenham in two thousand and one a very clever business man took over and has taken the club forward in every way possible. It always helps that the chairman is a lifelong fan and therefore his heart is in the club.

Under his reign Managers including David Pleat, George Graham and Glenn Hoddle have tried to take the club forward but standards are high at White Hart Lane and they've all moved on.

Daniel Levy is after the big prize, he wants the North London giants to be crowned Kings of England and has proved that no player or Manager is bigger than the club.

Harry Redknapp, who lead the club to it's highest finish in the Premiership was let go and after Gareth Bale made it clear he wanted to join Real Madrid the chairman didn't stand in his way as long as the club got a good price for him. A world record fee was paid but Levy had already released funds, he was looking forward not back.

Andre Villas Boas took over the hotseat in two thousand and twelve, the former Porto and Chelsea boss has done well in his first year in charge and has spent wisely. Spurs certainly are a team of International superstars.

But things can always improve.

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas said the home support at White Hart Lane made the 1-0 win over Hull feel like an away game for his side.

Frustrated for long periods, Spurs climbed to fourth in the Premier League courtesy of Roberto Soldado's penalty.

"We looked like the away team. We played in a difficult atmosphere with almost no support," said Villas-Boas.

"We have a wonderful set of fans but they can do better. We don't need the negativity of today."

Home or away?

This season, Spurs have won three of their five home league games, taking victory in three of four away from home. Last season, they won 11 at home compared to 10 away, but scored eight more goals on their travels.

The 36-year-old Portuguese, in his second season as Spurs manager, told BBC Sport: "Away from home their support has been amazing; we play with no fear and we need that atmosphere at White Hart Lane.

"We didn't have the support we should have done. There was much anxiety from the stands, the players had to do it alone.

"We spoke about it at half-time. I told the players that we would have to do it on our own. They had to dig deep and look for the strength within themselves. They also believed that it's not easy to play in this stadium when the atmosphere is like this."

At the age of eight a young man called Andros Townsend joined the club; his dream, like any other young player was to get into the first team and help the mighty Spurs win games. Remarkably the young winger has been on loan at no less than nine clubs and yet he is only twenty two years old! With the sale of Bale a position was up for grabs and he started the season well with a couple of assists and a goal.

England Manager Roy Hodgson, who'd seen the winger on loan at Queens Park Rangers last season, was impressed with what he saw and gave him his chance at International level; he didn't disappoint.

AVB is mixing talented young players with experienced Internationals and it's working well. They currently sit in fourth place in the Premiership, just three points behind North London rivals Arsenal.

Can they win the title that Daniel Levy and indeed every Tottenham fan wants?

This season is one of the most open campaigns in years with clubs changing Managers; Chelsea and Manchester United both having new bosses in charge.

It must be an incentive to beat arch rivals Arsenal but these two North London giants might not only be playing for pride when they meet; it could well decide if silverware and indeed the crown of Premiership champions .

Spurs have never won the Premiership title, in nineteen sixty one they won the old first Division title and have won the FA Cup eight times. Is two thousand and thirteen the year for the Tottenham team to earn its Spurs?

They have as good a chance as anyone and with Daniel Levy and the board fully behind them only a fool would dismiss their chances.
