The best and worst job in football

For many professional footballers one of the things they don't want to hear is, "You're on the bench,"
Of course it's not the end of the world as there are three subs and the chances are with tactical changes or injury that you will get on the field of play but not for all.
There is one player that may be on the bench the entire season and not even get one game.
This poor soul wants their team to do well and  for their colleague that is playing in the position that they want to do so as well.
But at the back of their mind what are they really thinking? After all they want to play football at the end of the day!
I am of course talking about a reserve team goalkeeper, I would call them number twos but they have their own squad numbers!
Imagine a Cup game and you're the reserve; it goes to penalties and you have to watch! If your team win the 'number one' is a hero but if your team lose you might think, 'I'd have saved two of them!'
Now a goalkeeper is only human and can get injured but it is unusual; let's face if your mad enough to run out at a player that is running with the ball at you then a little injury is nothing.
I have to say the goalkeeping union is indeed a unique one.
As in every position in football there has to be competition and between the sticks is no different but you have to be very good to hold on to top spot.
A reserve is still expected to be good but can't be as good as the number one or that's what they'd be. If a shot goes past them it's, 'That's why he's reserve,' yet if he saves it's, 'Why isn't he playing from the start?'
It's a no win but no lose situation and either way one of the keepers will feel like they've had a kick in the balls.
